HAPPENINGS AT CARRIACOU HEALTH SERVICES THIS WEEK  
The week of March 4-9, 2007 the Carriacou Health Services Health Center will have a visiting Surgical Team from New York performing surgery including laparoscopic surgery at Carriacou Health Services. This is made possible through the generous support of The Ashby Windward Foundation, under the leadership of Mr. Christofer Ashby. The Ashby Windward Foundation is underwriting the surgery for six patients with financial hardships and who are in need of surgery. The various surgeries covered by The Ashby Windward Foundation include a 3-year- old child in need of a hernia repair, a young man who is quadriplegic for wound grafting, a person s/p cardiac surgery in need of a hernia repair, two women with gynecological problems, and a young male in need of hernia repair. The surgical team will be performing eight additional surgeries during their stay. The surgical team consists of plastic and general surgeon, Dr. Mia Talmor from New York Hospital; an anesthesiologist with a fellowship in pain management, Dr. Leroy Sutherland from St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital; nurse anesthetist and nurse practitioner, Ms. Iris Tuitt from New York Hospital; operating room technologist, Mr. Waine Campbell, R.N., and Ms. Elizabeth Cross both from St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital and our local physicians and nurses. Surgeries will be performed all week at Carriacou Health Services. The Ashby Windward Foundation expects to provide ongoing support to people with financial hardship in need of medical care in Carriacou and Petite Martinique. This is in line with the mission of Carriacou Health Services which is to provide quality, compassionate healthcare services to the people of Grenada, Carriacou, Petite Martinique, the Grenadines and worldwide that embrace our values of quality, human dignity and community. No one is turned away from the Health Center based on his/her inability to pay. On Thursday, March 8, Carriacou Health Services and Carriacou Charitable Health Services, Inc. (our not-for-profit arm) will present a Certificate of Thanks and Appreciation to Dr. Christofer Ashby of The Ashby Windward Foundation on behalf of the Prime Minister of Grenada, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Keith Mitchell, Minister of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, the Hon. Elvin Nimrod, Carriacou Health Services and the people of Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Carriacou Health Services offers ongoing medical services which include adult, pediatric and ob/gyn services, prenatal care and delivery, laboratory services, radiology services and chiropractic services.
