Digicel, the fastest growing mobile telecommunications company in the Caribbean; on March 6, hosted a very successful, first of its kind International Women’s Day luncheon at the Beach House Restaurant in Grenada. International Women’s Day is celebrated on the 8th of March annually and is seen as a time when women from all walks of life celebrate the international liberalization of women. The day has been observed since the beginning of the 20th century before which women around the world basically had no rights and privileges. Today we see women as heads of states, heads of households, politicians, entrepreneurs and many other vital roles in society. Digicel in recognition of these significant milestones held the luncheon as an indication of the company’s commitment to the advancement of women. Her Excellency Lady Williams and Mrs. Marietta Mitchell, wife of the Prime Minister, among more than 30 Grenadian women from various walks of life, joined us for a delightful afternoon of dining. Patrons were thrilled with the idea and were openly expressive of their appreciation to Digicel for the initiative to recognize and support the women of Grenada and by extension the Caribbean.
