CROCHU POMME ROSE EX-STUDENTS ASSOCIATION'S YOUTH PROGR...
The Crochu Pomme Rose Ex-Students' Association is about to embark on a brand-new Youth Program here in New York. We would like to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to your young relative between the ages of 12 and 18 years to join us as a member of this new initiative. The program is tentatively set to begin in June of this year and we are looking for a diverse group of talented young people to be part of this program. As part of this initiative, we would like to start a dialogue with the young people, get their input and ideas as to what their expectations are as well as discuss what our objectives are. Some of the plans we have are: Cultural empowerment program - participants will learn and experience Caribbean and African culture through education, dance, arts and crafts, and travel. One of the highlights of this program is to eventually take the participants on trips to the Caribbean and Africa to actually experience and learn about their history and to see for themselves the culture and history of their ancestors. Another initiative is to implement programs such as folklore dancing, skits, drama, modern dance, ballroom dancing, modeling, and many other programs of interest to the young people. The idea behind this program is to educate the youth about our history and culture so that they can continue our traditions long after the older folks have moved on. Another aspect of this program is to have an Exchange program in which we can bring children from the various parishes in Grenada to New York so that they would get a true sense of how we live and not be influenced only by what they see on television. Of course, all of these initiatives are contingent on the financial support of the parents, the Community, and Businesses who we hope would be supportive of our objectives. We would also have a number of fund raisers in which the participants will showcase what they have learned during this process. We are also looking for individuals with special talents to volunteer their services to teach Caribbean and African folklore, arts and crafts, ballroom dancing, and history. In order for this program to be a success, we need your help. To register, pleas call Eugenia Alexander at (718) 373-3746 to register your child or relative. The number of participants will be limited.
