TWO MISSING FISHERMEN FROM GRENVILLE FOUND
CATEGORY:SITUATION UPDATE -------------------------------- INSIDE GRENADA Saturday March 10,2007 by Wallace J.A Two Grenville fishermen – Selwyn Aldridge and Matthew Paul – who were missing at sea for just over a week, are now happily re-united with their loved ones. The men stated that they had encountered engine problems while out at sea and their fishing boat started to drift in the open sea. They were able to survive on some water they had and on some of the fish that they had caught. After drifting for some days, the men were able to signal to some passing ship and were carried to Margarita. They remained there until contact was made with local authorities and provisions were made for their safe return. The men commented very highly on the treatment they received from the authorities in Margarita. The authorities in Grenada had been working extremely hard to find the missing fishermen, liaising with their counterparts in the region and mounting search parties. Fishermen are encouraged to always ensure that they have the essential equipment on board when going out to sea and that there is at least five gallons of water per person and at least five days of ration per person on board. Grenadians are extremely happy to know that there is a happy ending to this incident.
