WORLD CUP IS REALIZATION OF GREAT DREAM: GRENADA PM
Grenada's Prime Minister Keith Mitchell has said his country epitomised the spirit of commitment that had come to represent the Caribbean's staging of the Cricket World Cup. Pointing to the devastating caused by Hurricane Ivan and Emily in 2004 and 2005 respectively, Mitchell said the country had rebounded from the crisis to follow through on its commitment to host matches during the March 11 to April 28 event. 'For us, World Cup 2007 is not just a prestigious cricket tournament. It is the realization of a great dream. It is also the birth of a new dawn in which Caribbean countries accomplished the difficult task of coming together as a harmonious and committed unit to pursue the lofty and the common goal of making World Cup 2007 a resounding success,' Mitchell told the official ceremony at the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Complex. 'Perhaps, nowhere is this commitment greater than in my island Grenada. After hurricanes Ivan and Emily devastated Grenada in 2004 and 2005, it would have been easy and natural for us to relegate World Cup 2007 to an insignificant position on our list of most important priorities. 'But we didn't. I am proud to say that in our period of national crisis, we could still see the importance and many advantages of hosting the World Cup. So, Grenada rededicated and recommitted itself to making it a reality and a success,' the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) quoted him as saying at the ceremony. The Grenada National Stadium, which was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan, was rebuilt in time to host Super Eight, second round matches from April 10-21. Mitchell is also the chairman of Caribbean Community's (CARICOM) sub-committee on cricket. Reprinted from indianews.co
