Students from Grenada, BVI Virgin Gorda and BVI Tortola are the winners of National Geographic Traveler magazine’s second annual Caribbean Youth Photography Contest, “In My View,” organized in conjunction with the Caribbean Tourism Organization. The Grand Prize winner is Joshua Tuson, aged 12, from Grenada, for his photo titled "Chad on Paradise Beach". Joshua and his parents will be flown to Washington, DC in June on a four-day, three-night trip, courtesy of the magazine. There the talented winner will receive a private tour of the National Geographic Society, collect a brand-new 35 mm digital camera and be taken by one of the magazine’s top photographers on a whirlwind photographic tour of the city (complete with expert tips!). Finally, Joshua’s winning photograph will be published in the July/August issue of National Geographic Traveler magazine. The Second Prize winner is Dylan Hunter, aged 13, from BVI Virgin Gorda, whose winning photo is titled "The Granite Passage". Dylan will receive an “Ultimate Photography Package” including a digital camera and carrying case plus three National Geographic Society photography books. Mathew Osman, aged 17, from BVI Tortola, is the Third Prize winner, for his photograph titled "Heading into the Sunset". Matthew will receive ten National Geographic Society photography books. All three finalists’ work will be on display in a special photo exhibit at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, DC. “Once again this year, we are thrilled by the number of truly amazing photographs we received from these very talented children,” said Kimberly Connaghan, associate publisher of National Geographic Traveler. “Through their work we are able to capture an authentic window into the everyday world of the Caribbean that may never be captured even by the most talented pros.” “We are delighted to again support an event that will truly expand the horizons of these talented Caribbean youngsters,” said Hugh Riley, Caribbean Tourism Organization director of marketing for the Americas. “We commend National Geographic Traveler for this extraordinary initiative, and look forward to its continued success.” The second annual Caribbean Youth Photography Contest, “In My View,” welcomes young Caribbean shutterbugs (ages 12-17) to capture and share the natural beauty, character, personality and unique attributes that best represent life on their island.
