CATEGORY:MAJOR DEVELOPMENT ------------------------------ INSIDE GRENADA Friday March 16,2007 by Wallace J.A ST. GEORGE’S: A twenty-five year old laborer from Boca, St. George’s, has been charged by police in Grenada in connection with an attack on the husband of the Cuban Ambassador at his Lance Aux Epines residence last weekend. The young Boca resident is facing two charges: robbery with violence and causing grievous harm. He is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday of next week. The attack on the Cuban resident occurred only days after the Italian consul on the island was brutally attacked at her residence by armed assailants. The attacks on the foreign diplomats have been condemned in virtually every corner of Grenadian society. Many persons expressed their outrage over the attacks since the image of the country as a peaceful place with kind-hearted people could be severely tarnished. Almost everyone Grenadian Connection (GC) spoke to, however, were of the opinion that the police in the country should have had a more effective system in place to offer better protection for our foreign dignitaries. The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) spoke out very strongly against the attacks last week as well as the ruling New National Party (NNP). Acting Prime Minister, Hon. Gregory Bowen, met with the members of the police hierarchy this week to discuss the matter and put security arrangements in place to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
