CATEGORY:POLITICS ----------------------- INSIDE GRENADA Wednesday March 21,2007 EDITOR'S NOTE: This article represents the views, policies and vision of the New National Party (NNP) headed by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell. The NNP has been in office since 1995 - for three consecutive terms. In the last general election, the NNP won 8 of the 15 seats that were contested. GRENADA: The New National Party held a very successful Convention on Sunday, March 18, 2007. If the ‘Full House’ of jubilant NNPites at the Trade Centre is a yardstick of things to come all contenders are in trouble. The event gave evidence of the New National Party’s ever growing strength. The mobilization aspect was first class, and the motivation and enthusiasm of the Delegates and participants was something to behold. Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell, the distinguished leader of the NNP electrified the air as adoring supporters were enthralled with his impassionate delivery of the nation’s state of affairs. Prime Minister, Mitchell reminded his listeners that it took hard work to have come this far, realizing the setbacks caused by hurricanes ‘Ivan’ and ‘Emily.’ He informed the capacity crowd that the country continues to make its mark in Sports and the construction of the National Stadium in relation with the hosting of World Cup is no coincidence. On the basis of the Party’s philosophy, our Prime Minister made the point that a good NNP supporter was not one that would display selfishness and not reach out or offer assistance to his or her fellowman that is in need regardless of their political affiliation. Guest speaker, Sir James Mitchell, former Prime Minister of St. Vincent urged the Party to be united and be a Party of inclusion. He praised the Prime Minister for his vision and leadership, and his ability to achieve economic growth and stability in these challenging times. The Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Gregory Bowen spoke of the reconstruction and developments in the area of Agriculture and reminded the audience of the value of the Telemarketing business. He spoke of the reduction in the cost of transmission lines with its associated incentives and job opportunities. Minister of Sport, Hon. Roland Bhola, spoke of the vision as it relates to the hosting the World Cup. He reminded his listeners of the spin-off business opportunities and encouraged people to support the World Cup by going out and buy tickets. Senator, Emmalin Pierre, Minister of Youth was on target when she asked her listeners to be supportive and act as role models for our young people. She was strong about the importance of sending the right message to them. The presence of the young supporters was a welcoming sight and brought good balance to the event. To bring the proceedings to a joyful close our beloved, charismatic and talented Prime Minister wowed the ‘Full House with his nifty footwork as he danced to the pulsating rhythm of reggae great Denis Brown’s “Here I come.” Feedback reveals that the Opposition Party’s ‘Heart’ took a jolt and many of its executives are shaking in their ‘Yellow’ pants. It must be noted that the last time such outpouring of love and enthusiasm was demonstrated the New National Party dominated the polls with 15 seats. Stay tuned.
