IS IT COINCIDENCE OR DÉJÀ VU ?

CATEGORY:POLITICS ----------------------- INSIDE GRENADA Saturday March 25,2007 EDITOR'S NOTE: This article represents the views, policies and vision of the New National Party (NNP) headed by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell. The NNP has been in office since 1995 - for three consecutive terms. In the last general election, the NNP won 8 of the 15 seats that were contested. The nature and behaviour of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has drawn the ire and concern of the local, regional, and international community. We are now at an all time low as it relates to the Opposition Party behaviour in Grenada. Fortunately, the maturity, professionalism and successes of the New National Party (NNP) has steered Grenada away from the political land-mines and social obstacles planted by the Opposition Party. As one tries to examine the mindset of the NDC Party, you come away with an eerie feeling that something sinister is cooking. We know the history of the cadre of misfits that comprise their current leadership. We know the elements…their penchant for doing dirty tricks in subtle and clandestine ways. We, as a Government, do not make wild accusations and assertions and the recent slew of incidents embarrassing Grenada leaves us all to wonder…” is it coincidence or is it déjà vu? We have had the dreadful experience of the Queens Park bombing; the shameful attack on our Religious Order; the murder of Belmar; and the savage murder of Bishop and his Cabinet. Recently, we witnessed the mindless burning of our High Schools; a foolish attempt to run over the Prime Minister; another vehicular incident with Senator Emmalin Pierre; the inexcusable National Anthem incident; and now the attacks on the Cuban Ambassador and Italian consulate respectively. Can all these incidents and other law and order incidents too numerous to mention be construed as coincidence? As Christians, we are willing to forgive but under the gross circumstances it is impossible for us to forget. The Government gives serious consideration to legitimate industrial issues. Conversely, at no time will this Government allow the industrial sector to be manipulated by persons with vengeful political interest. The attempted strikes by union leaders to frustrate and derail progress are the old shoot-in-the-foot ignorance that Grenadians are wising up to. Is it coincidence that most of the acts of violence and drug cases are being represented by a particular lawyer that doubles as a Parliamentary Representative of the Town of St. George? Is it coincidence that he has a long list of judgments against him in the United States? On the character assassination front: The NNP does not engage in the dirty character assassination game…and even if the NNP chooses to fight that type of fight there is no point because no one on the NDC side seem to have any Character to assassinate. The laundry list of NDC members’ criminal record is in the legal files for verification.
