FANS DISAPPOINTED AS SHORT-STAFFED WEST INDIES TEAM ARR...
It was a disappointing moment for West Indies fans in Grenada, as well as officials from the CWC Local Organizing Committee on Monday when only five members of the squad touched down at the Point Saline International Airport in on a Caribbean Airlines flight. Marlon Samuels, Devon Smith, Jerome Taylor, Darren Powell, Christopher Gayle, together with coach Bennett King and other training and support members, arrived and were welcomed by drumming and folk dancers. Captain Brian Lara, Manager Clive Lloyd and other senior members of the squad were not present and no reasons were given to the media as to why this was. On arrival, the 12 member delegation was escorted to the VIP lounge where they filled out their immigration forms and left without making any comments to the media. Corporate communications manager for the LOC, Troy Garvey, during a media briefing said the LOC will continue its obligations relating to planning for the games to be held here starting April 10th. According to the schedule the West Indies squad was expected to conduct its first practice session at Progress Park, but this was not the case. However unconfirmed, the first practice session will be held on Thursday. Last Friday it was announced that the team’s arrival was cancelled until further notice, however the LOC was informed on Sunday that outstanding logistics were ironed out and the team would arrive on Monday. According to Garvey, a senior member of the team, via telephone, informed the LOC late on Sunday night that all the members would not be arriving. Garvey told the media that this would have a rippling effect on their preparations, be it security, hotel accommodations and otherwise. The information has been channelled to the Chief Executive Officer for ICC CWC, Chris Dehring and president of the West Indies Cricket Board, Ken Gordon. A date as to when the rest of the team will arrive is not known but South Africa is expected to arrive during the week. Reprinted from Caribbean Net News caribbeannetnews.com

What a dam shame. Them boys being treated like celebrity and they couldn't even stop to issue a statement to the media and fans. The Entire West Indies need a transformation. From the board to the selectors to the coach and the players. And they better give we boy Devon Smith a game when they playing in Grenada. Else its gonna be a horse of a different colour in Queens Park.
