CATEGORY:HEALTH ------------------- INSIDE GRENADA Sunday April 08,2007 by Wallace J.A GRENADA: During the course of last week, the Ministry of Health (MOH) received three new ambulances, bringing the current tally of ambulances on the island to 10. The ambulances received by the MOH consist of one Ford and two Toyotas (2006-2007 models). The Ford ambulance was given to the Government of Grenada (GOG) as a gift from the Government and people of Venezuela. Her Excellency Edna Figuera Cedeno, Venezuelan ambassador to Grenada, handed overt he keys to the emergency vehicle to Grenada’s health minister, Sen. Ann David Antoine in a special ceremony last week. She promised that the Venezuelan Government will be providing the GOG with another ambulance in the near future. The other two ambulances (Toyota) were bought by the GOG and handed over to Mr. Terron Gilchrist, the Director of Hospital Services in Grenada. These vehicles would have cost approximately EC$256,000.00. The three ambulances have come at a very opportune time, since Grenada is scheduled to host six matches in the Super Eight round of matches in the Cricket World Cup 2007 from April 10 – 20. These vehicles will enable the health service providers on the island to respond more efficiently to emergency cases that may arise over the period of the World Cup games and beyond.
