CHRISTIANS IN GRENADA CELEBRATE EASTER

CATEGORY:COMMEMORATION (EASTER) ------------------------------------ INSIDE GRENADA Sunday April 08,2007 by Wallace J.A GRENADA: Christians in Grenada are joining their counterparts around the world in celebrating Easter, one of the most important events on the Christian calendar. This event comes at a time when Christians, especially those of the Roman Catholic and Anglican churches, have been observing the ‘Lenten season’ (over a period of 40 days) during which time observers were expected to abstain from a number of secular functions and activities. Easter is observed in commemoration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. After His crucifixion, death and burial, the Messiah, Jesus Christ, is believed (by Christians) to have risen from the death on the third day after his death. The Catholic Church on the island last night held a vigil and midnight mass in observance of Easter. Bishop Vincent Darius, head of the Catholic Faith in Grenada, was present at this very important mass. This morning, many Christians throughout the island were seen going to church in order to be a part of today’s important service. Many young people were also seen with their kites going to nearby pastures to have fun. Kite flying is also an event that takes place in Grenada around Easter time. Although the event has no direct link with the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the wind around this time of the year is ideal for the flying of kites.
