WEST INDIES TEAM FOR ENGLAND SELECTED

CATEGORY:SPORTS(CRICKET) ------------------------------ INSIDE GRENADA WEDNESDAY May 02,2007 by Wallace J.A The selectors of the West Indies cricket team have chosen a 15-man-team to tour England later on this month. The team comprises:Ramnaresh Sarwan (captain), Chris Gayle, Devon Smith, Daren Ganga, Dwayne Bravo, Runako Morton, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Sylvester Joseph, Denesh Ramdin, Corey Collymore, Fidel Edwards, Darren Sammy, Jerome Taylor, Ravi Rampaul and Daren Powell. The West Indies tour of England is due to start at Taunton on May 12. The regional team was recently defeated by England in the last game of the Super Eight round of the 2007 Cricket World Cup. Both teams are presently struggling and have not been putting in good performances in recent times. Both teams have also lost their coaches and are in the process of restructuring and rebuilding. The much anticipated showdown between the two teams, therefore, should generate quite a lot of regional and international interest. The West Indies will be playing four tests and three ODI’s against England. It is believed that the composition of the West Indies team for the English tour reflects the vision that the regional cricket ‘Tsars’ have for the future of West Indies cricket. There have been rumors circulating widely that many members of the team are ill disciplined, lack pride in West Indies cricket, have issues against other members of the team and lack the intestinal fortitude to fight back against an opposing team when the odds seem to be going against them. One of the reasons why Ramnaresh Sarwan has been selected as the new captain of the West Indies Cricket team to replace Brian Lara, who has recently retired from international cricket, is that he is a harmonizing force on the team and he is well-respected by the other players.
