GRENADA: The New National Party (NNP) today held a massive rally at the Progress Park in St. Andrew’s to celebrate Grenada’s successful hosting of its quota of games in the 2007 Cricket World Cup. The rally commenced around 3:00 pm and was chaired by Senator Einstein Louison.
The large gathering of supporters, wearing the party colors (green), heard speeches from many members of the NNP executive, such as Hon. Gregory Bowen, Hon. Yoland Bain Horsford, Hon. Roland Bhola, Hon. Clarice Charles, Sen. Emmalyn Pierre among others. All speakers touched briefly on work that they have been doing within their respective departments and appealed to the people present to continue supporting the NNP for continued peace, love, progress and stability.
There were guest appearances from some of Grenada’s top soca artists that provided good entertainment for the crowd. Inspector, Sheldon Douglas, Zingo and others had the NNP supporters jumping and waving their green party flags and national flags. One gentleman even waved his green banana leaf.
The main feature of the rally was the much publicized address from Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell. He informed the gathering that he has advised the Governor-General that as of May 15, 2007, there will be changes in the ministerial portfolios of some of his ministers:
Hon. Clarice Charles, in addition to her present portfolio, will be the Minister of Legal Affairs. Hon. Elvin Nimrod will retain his other job titles. Sen. Brenda Hood will be the Minister of Works and Transport while Hon. Clarice Modeste Curwen will be the new Minister of Tourism. Hon. Anthony Boatswain will head a new ministry called the Ministry of Economic Development and Planning while Prime Minister Mitchell will take up the Ministry of Finance.
The rally came to an end around 8:00 pm.
