CATEGORY:SPECIAL REPORT --------------------------- INSIDE GRENADA MONDAY May 7,2007 by Wallace J.A GRENADA: Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell yesterday announced that his government intends to increase the salaries of workers affiliated with the Public Workers Union (PWU). He made the announcement while addressing a large gathering of party faithfuls at a massive New National Party (NNP) rally that was held in Progress Park, St. Andrew’s. Dr. Mitchell said that officials from the PWU and the Government’s negotiating Team have arrived at a settlement on the pay increase. Workers at the lower end of the scale will enjoy increases of 6% for 2006, 5% for 2007, 5% for 2008 and hopefully will also accept 5% for 2009. Workers at their middle scale will receive 4% for 2006, 4% for 2007, 4% for 2008 and hopefully will accept 4% for 2009.Workers at the upper end of the scale will receive 3% for 2006, 3% for 2007, 3% for 2008 and hopefully will also accept 3% for 2009. Dr. Mitchell also indicated that if the negotiating team for teachers and policemen agree, they will also receive similar increases in salaries. These announcements were greeted with loud cheers by those in attendance.
