CATEGORY:POLITICS ----------------------- INSIDE GRENADA Wednesday May 9,2007 by Wallace J.A GRENADA: The deputy political leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Prime, has voiced his concern over the appearance of the President of the Senate (Kenny Lalsingh) on the New National Party’s (NNP) platform last weekend. Prime believes that this is a breach of the conventions, rules, jurisprudence and customs of parliamentary democracy. He is of the view that this could bring into question his (Lalsingh’s) independence and impartiality as the President of the Senate. Mr. Lalsingh, however, does not believe that his presence at the NNP rally at Progress Park on Sunday should be seen as a problem. He said that he was nominated by Prime Minister Mitchell to be a senator and was appointed by the Governor General. He stated quite emphatically that as the President of the Senate, he is guided by the rules of the Senate and ensures that he is impartial in all matters. What he chooses to do outside of the Senate, he said, has nothing to do with his position of President of the Upper House of Parliament.
