CATEGORY:SPORTS(CRICKET) ----------------------------- INSIDE GRENADA THURSDAY May 10,2007 by Wallace J.A GRENADA: The St.Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School (SAASS) yesterday scored a resounding victory over Wesley College in the 2007 United Insurance sponsored Inter-Secondary Schools’ Cricket Competition. The cricket match was played at Progress Park in St.Andrew’s. Batting first, SAASS scored a record 392 runs in their allotted 35 overs, losing only two wickets in the process. Kishon Williams of SAASS scored an enthralling 203 runs (not-out) making him the first cricketer to score such a massive total since the genesis of the tournament. His amazing knock included twenty-eight 4s and two 6s.Other superb knocks came from Jason Williams (74), Tade Carmichael (47) and Leon Calliste (28 not out). Wesley College was only able to put together 56 runs before they were all bowled out in just 15 overs. Their top-scorer was R. Alleyne who made 11 runs. Bowling for SAASS, Eldon Thomas captured 4 wickets for 9 runs in 3 overs while Kimron Beggs captured 2 wickets for 17 runs in 3 overs. So far, the boys from SAASS are unbeaten in the tournament having already defeated Grenville Secondary School (GSS), Grenada Boys’ Secondary School (GBSS), St. David’s Secondary School, Boca Secondary School and Westerhall Secondary school. SAASS is also the defending champion in the recently held Independence Inter-Secondary Schools’ Competition. Grenadian Connection spoke to the manager of SAASS cricket team, Mr. Terry Alexander, who is quite pleased with his team’s performance thus far. He said that he has a very well-balanced team made up of many all-round cricketers. He thinks that his team stands an excellent chance of winning this year’s United Insurance-sponsored competition. The finals of the competition will be played at the National Stadium in St. George’s and his boys are looking forward very eagerly to playing there and bringing the championship trophy up to Telescope.

SAASS SCORES RECORD TOTAL IN UNITED INSURANCE INTER-SEC...
SAASS has a very progressive and dynamic sporting program which has been producing many footballers and cricketers. The school narrowly missed out on reclaiming the Intercol trophy last term and the championship was only decided in the last race. As far as I can tell, work on the building is scheduled to commence sometime this month. The contractor for the work has already been identified and work should begin anytime now.I hope it really begins this time.

Reminds me of the days in the 80's when we dominated cricket and intercol and when Carlos Thomas and them tief Rawle Lewis and bring him to GBSS. But we doing good again> I hope they build back the roof on the school that will make a big difference. Why they making the school suffer like that? The school is a very progressive school, is that the reason why? Ansa me Wallace JA!
