GEORGE’S: The Ministry of Social Development is proud to extend heartfelt wishes for a Happy Mothers’ Day to all mothers throughout Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Mothers have been the very corner stone of our society, in many instances playing the dual role of both mother and father. Moreover, their strength, determination and resilience have encouraged many to aspire to greater heights. Over the years, Mothers have been working assiduously to provide for their children, husbands, and extended family members. Mothers play a significant role in the overall development of a child’s character by instilling the right morals and values at an early age, and as such are the springboard from which our future society is launched. However every year, Domestic Violence ruins Mothers’ Day for hundreds of women in Grenada. Moreover, whenever a mother is abused her children are affected. Unfortunately, those children see something they will never forget – they see their father or a boyfriend abuse their mother. This picture leaves them with serious psychological scars that may remain with them forever. In fact, studies have shown that male abusers are six (6) times more likely to have seen their mothers being physically and emotionally abused. This mothers’ Day we are appealing for you to show LOVE, RESPECT, and APPRECIATION TO YOUR WIVES or GIRLFRIENDS and implore you to continue on that path. After all, she too is somebody’s MOTHER. The role of Mother is very significant in the development of our Nation. It is in this regard that the Ministry of Social Development joins all of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique in celebrating Mothers everywhere. Let’s show appreciation to those special women whose contributions to communities, schools etc have been instrumental in the growth and development of our people. We also take this opportunity to encourage family members and friends to go the extra mile to make this Mothers’ Day the happiest one for all Mothers and may this trend continue throughout the years.
