CATEGORY:SPORT(CRICKET) --------------------------- INSIDE GRENADA TUESDAY May 15,2007 by Wallace J.A GRENADA: Semi-final matches were played yesterday (May 14) in the United Insurance Inter Secondary Schools’ Cricket Competition. In zone B, Mt. Rose Secondary School played against the Grenville Secondary School (GSS) at Plains Playing Field in St. Patrick’s while the St. Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School (SAASS) met the McDonald’s College at Progress Park, St. Andrew’s, to determine the winner of Zone A. In the Zone B match, GSS batted first and amassed a meager total of 111 runs. Mt. Rose Secondary School replied with 114 runs for 4 wickets. Gary Charles top-scored with 72 not out for Mt. Rose Secondary while Davis Charles from the same team ended up with the impressive bowling figures of 5 wickets for 11 runs. At Progress Park in St. Andrews – where the other semi-final game was played – Mc Donald’s College batted first and posted a total of 117 runs in 33.4 overs with M. St.Bernard top-scoring with 35 runs. Tade Carmichael of SAASS had bowling figures of 4 wickets for 17 runs in 5.4 overs. SAASS replied with 118 for 4 in 26 overs with Tade Carmichael again coming good with the bat to score an impressive 46 not out. This means that the two unbeaten teams in the tournament – SAASS and Mt. Rose Secondary School – will clash on Tuesday May 22, 2007 at the Grenada National Stadium to determine the winner of the United Insurance Inter-Secondary School’s Cricket tournament. As expected, both teams are very confident that they can walk away with championship honors for 2007. It is expected that both teams will have tremendous support and everyone is encouraged to turn out to look at the young talented cricketers that exist in Grenada’s secondary schools at present. They represent the future of Grenada’s cricket.
