CATEGORY:CONSTRUCTION -------------------------- INSIDE GRENADA WEDNESDAY May 16,2007 GRENADA: Rehabilitation work on the St. Paul’s Government School is progressing steadily. The school like many other schools on the island was severely damaged as a result of Hurricane Ivan in 2004. The School is presently being rehabilitated through funds obtained by the Government of Grenada through the World Bank to the tune of EC$2,449,537.97. The proposed works comprise the repairs, renovations and re-decorations of the existing building and includes replacing roof, doors, windows, walls, floors, ceilings, fittings, services etc. The existing building is single storey, reinforced concrete foundations, columns, floor and galvanized iron roof, rendered and painted hollow precast concrete block walls and timber partitions. The services will include plumbing installations- cold water, waste and ventilation pipe work and electrical installation. The external works comprise repairs to the existing paved aprons and surface water drains. Rehabilitation of the entire facility is expected to be completed by September 2007. The school is presently being housed at the St. Paul’s Community Center which was rehabilitated through a joint initiative between the Government of Grenada, Cable and Wireless Steel Orchestra, and members of the PTA. The collaborative effort saw the rehabilitation of the following: • repair and renovation of toilet facilities • repair of the roof over the pan house • repair of roof over the stage and meeting areas • painting of the Community center • Treatment for Termite infestation. • Construction of concrete deck for water tank. • Construction and installation of concrete sinks on outside of building. • Construction of two wooden classrooms and a staff room. The Ministry of Education continues to commend the teachers, staff, students, PTA, and the management and staff of the Community Center for their continued support, understanding and cooperation.
