GRENADIANS TO GET SCHOLARSHIPS FROM MOROCCO
More Scholarship opportunities will soon be available for young Grenadians. This is as a result of a successful meeting held between Prime Minister Dr. The Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell and a 7-man delegation headed by the Moroccan Minister of Industry, Commerce and Finance, the Hon. Salah Edinne Mezouar. The Moroccans agreed to provide at least three (3) scholarships to Grenadians annually with the possibility of further negotiations for an increase in that number. Additionally, the delegation proposed to grant training in specific areas and provide development strategies that could benefit Grenada. Prime Minister Mitchell expressed his gratitude to the Government and people of Morocco for their generosity. The Prime Minister stated that “the provision of opportunities for our young people is and has always been a top priority for this Government. Our efforts over the years have seen a tremendous increase in the number of training opportunities for our people.” He also noted that “our young people are our greatest resource; we have to ensure that we nurture them.” The Government of Grenada has been on a major drive to increase scholarship opportunities to young people. This campaign has had great success and has seen the largest number of opportunities ever being offered to young people. The Government is also seeking to increase opportunities for students to study at home by providing the necessary assistance and support to the St. George’s University and the T.A. Marryshow Community College. Government is also bolstering these efforts through the access to information and educational opportunities which the Caribbean Knowledge and Learning network will provide. The CKLN will be headquartered in Grenada. Discussions with the Moroccans also centered around Grenada’s support for Morocco’s bid to host World Exposition 2012 and ways in which the Government of Morocco, with assistance from the Government of Spain, could provide technical support and cooperation to the Government and people of Grenada.
