CATEGORY:GOVERNMENT ----------------------- INSIDE GRENADA SUNDAY May 20,2007 Senator Brenda Hood has been transferred from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation after serving in that capacity for over nine years. She is remembered by many as the best Tourism Minister to have served in Grenada and especially for the role she played in reviving the Tourism Product after the devastation the Grenada suffered with the coming of two Hurricanes. A special ceremony hosted by the Airports Authority of Grenada was held to remember the important role Senator Hood played in numerous aspects of Airport and Tourism development. Tributes were paid to Senator Hood for her work, her dedication and her tenacity. Mr. Leslies Scott, who is the Vice Chairman of the Airlines Operation Committee, said that she was always there in support and that she was one they were able to call upon at all times. Mrs. Marian Sweet, in her capacity of Director of Aviation Services of Grenada, thanked Senator Hood for her devoted service to Tourism in Grenada. Mrs. Sweet said that Senator Hood worked tirelessly towards the development of Tourism and its related areas. She spoke of the lack of performance of Ministers in several small developing Countries - especially in their early periods - but made it clear that Senator Hood is quite different from the norm. Mr. Terrence Forrester, who is also saying goodbye after serving as Chairman of the Airports Authority of Grenada for the past two years, also added his share of admiration for the work demonstrated by Senator Hood. He said that he was more than privileged to have served under her stewardship and remembered her for her stealing contributions. Mr. Forrester said that the Airport had been able to accomplish a lot with the help and support of Minister Hood and expects more to be accomplished under Hon. Claris Modeste Curwen. He took time off to welcome Hon. Claris Modeste Curwen at the Airport and to also welcome her services and expertise. In responding to the comments made, Senator Hood said that she appreciates that people have recognized the contribution which she has made. She said that when she had agreed to serve in Government she did so with the intention of having something to offer. Senator Hood said that she could not have contributed to Airport development without the support of all. Special mention was made of outgoing Chairman, Mr. Terrence Forrester, whom Senator Hood said had a passion for getting things done. Senator Hood offered her support to the new Minister and welcomed her into her new Ministry. She also showered praise on the Acting CEO, Mrs. Joan Gilbert and the Staff at the Airport for the significant role they played over the years and for the support which was given. Several token of appreciation were presented to Senator Hood by Acting CEO Mrs. Joan Gilbert as well as other staff members of the Grenada Airports Authority.
