ST. GEORGES, GRENADA: Wednesday May 31st 2007, St. George’s: Prime Minister Dr. The Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell last night announced the appointment of Carl Caton to the Upper House of Parliament, The Senate. At a meeting in Rose Hill St. Patrick’s, Prime Minister Mitchell said that Mr. Caton would replace Sen. the Hon. Adrian Mitchell on the Government side in the Senate. Prime Minister Mitchell thanked Senator Mitchell for his tremendous contribution as a Minister and also announced that Sen. Mitchell would now be appointed as an Advisor to the Minister of Sport Hon. Roland Bhola. Mr. Caton will be sworn in to the Senate at a ceremony at the Governor General’s Office on Friday June 1. He will also serve as the Parliamentary Secretary in The Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Lands. In this position Mr. Caton will seek to address the needs of farmers and fishermen and will seek to aggressively advance Government’s agricultural programmes. Prime Minister Mitchell told the residents of Rose Hill that urgent action was needed in the Ministry of Agriculture to deal with the concerns of farmers and fishermen. Mr. Caton describes himself as a servant of the people and says his approach will be one of consultation and dialogue with the country’s farmers and fishermen. He said “everyone is worth listening to as the views of every individual are important.” Mr. Caton was born on 21st July, 1969 and lives in Mt. Rose, St. Patrick’s. He was enlisted in the Royal Grenada Police Force on November 30, 1992 and attained the rank of Sergeant. He was elected head of the Police Welfare Committee in 2003 and was also named as head of the Police negotiating team.
