CUSTOMS CRACK DOWN ON ILLEGAL IMPORTATION OF PETROLEUM
The Grenada government recently announced a crack down on the illegal importation of petroleum products. A notice issued by the Ministry of Finance read as follows: "All captains and owners of vessels and schooners arriving in or using Grenada’s territorial waters are hereby reminded and advised that an importation license is required for the importation of petroleum (gasoline, diesel, etc.) into Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, in accordance with the Petroleum Act, Cap. 239. "In addition, all importations must be declared to Customs, in accordance with the Customs Law and Regulations. "Failure to comply with the above laws and regulations will render all wrongdoers liable to heavy fines and penalties." There was no reason given as to what prompted this move by the authorities.
