NNP TAKES ITS CELEBRATION TO CARRIACOU
CATEGORY:POLITICS ------------------------- INSIDE GRENADA TUESDAY June 12,2007 The celebratory atmosphere which had prevailed among NNPITES at Progress Park in St. Andrews a few Sundays ago had continued with greater intensity as the New National Party gathered its forces from Carriacou and Petite Martinique as well as those from the Mainland for a massive Rally at Hillsborough in Carriacou last Sunday. It was energized with Soca renditions from Soca Artistes such as Inspector and Sheldon Douglas. The Power of the New National Party was exposed with two massive Motorcades with one heading south and with the other heading towards the northern part of the Island. They all then gathered at Hillsborough to hear from the Team of the New National Party. Mr. Benfield Bristol from L'Esterre pledged his support for Hon. Elvin Nimrod and spoke about all the wonderful things Hon. Nimrod had done for the Constituency of Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Former Candidate for the New National Party in Carriacou, Mr. Tobias Clement also added his share of support and acknowledgement of the Work done by Hon. Nimrod. Mr. Tobias spoke about what he described as the desperate moves by the NDC and called on all to get registered in time for the next elections. He asked they deal with the NDC Propaganda and said that the NDC are trying to make mischief with the good results of the World Cup. Mr. Tobias Clement told the Crowd that the NDC is now attacking the Imani Program and that if they come into office those involved in the Imani Program will be out of a job. He declared that the NDC today is not the same NDC he had been campaigning against a few years ago. The New NNP Senator Mr. Carl Caton also addressed the gathering. Mr. Caton who is now Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, assured the gathering that no incentives was offered to him to join the New National Party and that he is proud and not ashamed to be a strong member of the Party. He said that NNP is the only Party that gives young people the opportunity to excel. He gave a promise to work along with the Farmers and Fishermen and will now be in a better position to continue being an advocate for the Policemen. Senator Ann David Antoine spoke about the transformation which had been made in Carriacou and Petite Martinique with everything under repairs. She spoke about the repair work done to several Health Centers in Carriacou and Petite Martinique and also of major repair work to the Princess Alice Hospital. In addressing the massive gathering Parliamentary Representative for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Hon. Elvin Nimrod thanked all the people of Carriacou and Petite Martinique for the support they had given to him over the years. He told them that their very presence is a clear demonstration of the good work of the NNP. Hon. Nimrod warned that the detractors will want all to believe that nothing was done in Carriacou and Petite Martinique but that they all know better. Mention was made of some of the developments which were brought to Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Emphasis was made about the many Professionals which have emerged within Carriacou and Petite Martinique because of the efforts of the New National Party. In speaking about the benefits of the Imani Program he said that the NDC has made it clear that the if they win the next elections the first thing to go is the Imani Program. This Government he said is the only one which cares about the Elderly. The New Jewel Movement he said had passed a law to deny people their pension and it was the same New National Party which had reversed that law to ensure that all receive their pensions. In speaking about the re-sentencing of the Killers of Maurice Bishop he said that the NNP Government is doing all in its powers to keep these killers on Jail but it is people within the NDC who are now fighting to get them out because they know that all of them are part of the NDC. Hon. Nimrod told all that there are some Lawyers who are taking advantage on the poor people of Grenada and that in order to protect the people from these Lawyers the Government is now putting in place what he called the Legal Professional Act. This Act he said will ensure that these Lawyers operate in a professional manner and that a fund will be created so that people can get back monies which are wrongly collected. He declared that they have never seen Carriacou and Petite Martinique looking better and told the Constituents that he loves them and will continue fighting for them. Hon. Bowen told the gathering that the strength of the New National Party is in its unity. He said that Carriacou and Petite Martinique is NNP territory and asked all to continue giving their support to Hon. Nimrod who has done so much for the Constituency. With respect to the recent increase in the price of gasoline he told them that he is educating them with the truth so that they can deal with the propaganda because the NDC is very good at twisting the truth. Hon. Bowen pointed out that Custom Tax and Petrol Tax was at one time existing on gasoline but that Government had removed those and had imposed a single Tax of $3.00. He said that Government had absolutely no control on the present increase in the price of gas and that it was purely due to matters in the Middle East with respect to nuclear Plants, Weapons of Mass destruction and other factors. The Government he said is now intensifying its efforts at providing the Safety Nets to the vulnerable so that the poor can be relieved. He made it clear that there is no tax on Cooking Gas and that the price of cooking gas has been reduced. Hon. Bowen explained that the announcement of the present increase in gas was done late because it is observed that when such announcements are made too early some Gas Stations hold back on their old stocks and as such sell both the old and new stocks at the same price. The promise was made that Petro Caribbean will soon be setting up their first tanks in Grenada and will be granting the first Contract to GRENLEC. As such there will soon be a reduction in the price of gasoline and a reduction in the price of electricity. Hon. Bowen appealed to all to cut down on the use of their vehicles. Political Leader, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell in a clear reference to the Soca Artistes who had sang at the rally asked all to show appreciation for those who have stuck their necks out for them. He therefore showered praise on Sheldon Douglas and Inspector for the support they have always given to the New National Party. In speaking about the investments which are now coming into Grenada he told the gathering that the number of investment opportunities is enormous and that they should not tamper with the investment opportunities for this Country. God he said had been good to this Country and that they should always believe in God. Mention was made of lots of Grenadians such as Devon Smith, young Hamilton, Jason Roberts and Beharry who are at this time registering a good name for Grenada within the International Community. Dr. Mitchell declared that no one can run their mouths on Grenada again and that the only ones who are doing such are the NDC. He spoke of a plot engineered by a Newspaper Editor and a certain Lawyer aimed at getting NNP Supporters to vote for the GULP in the next elections. This he said is a plot to split the vote in an effort to give victory to the NDC. He assured them that Gairy had died with the GULP and that there is now no GULP. Dr. Mitchell warned that NDC now wants power at all cost and that they are now getting their Union Boss to go around and trying to threaten the Country. He warned that no one is above the law and that if any Union Person thinks that they are bigger than the law then they will be dealt with. He said that the consultation has already started with the business community with respect to the prices of goods and that very soon Grenadians will be seeing some reductions. The NNP Political Leader told the cheering crowd that he is proud to say that the Constituency of Carriacou and Petite Martinique has gotten its fair share and that it was Hon. Elvin Nimrod who had brought those benefits. The people were told that when they have something good they must not play with it because a good man is hard to find. A promise was made to work along with Hon. Elvin Nimrod at dealing with the problem of Land Titles for the people in Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Dr. Mitchell said that there are some people who want to vote for change but that if they want to vote for change there are already changes within the New National Party with several new Candidates in place. He said if it is change they want then it is change they will get and warned some of the NDC Candidates that they are now in serious trouble in terms of retaining the Seats they won at the last elections. This NNP he said is a Party of the present and future. He asked the supporters to pray for this Country and pledged that the NNP is a united team within a united Country.
