PM MITCHELL MEETS TENDERS BOARD
Finance Minister Dr Keith Mitchell has pledged to stamp out what he terms inconsistencies at the Tenders Board, in order to change its image. Mitchell noted that the work of the Tenders Board is vitally important to the development of Grenada. The Tenders Board is solely responsible for awarding contracts, as it relates infrastructural development. Recently speaking with members of the Board, Mitchell warned that the process must have integrity and the outcome must be transparent and free of suspicion. "Whatever needs to be done will be done, to change the image of the Board and the country." Members of the Board shed light on how the tendering process is carried out, as well as gave suggestions for improvement. Among the areas of concern were the pre- and post- qualification process. Mitchell suggested that the process for the awarding of contracts should cater to a wider cross-section of contractors. The meeting also decided on a number of actions that is believed would stamp out corruption and deal with persons in the system that had previously got away with dishonest practices at the expense of the Government.
