FISH FRIDAY CELEBRATES 2 YEARS
The Gouyave Fish Friday Festival Company is set to mark its 2nd anniversary of successful operations with a host of activities in the month of June under its June Jamboree 2K7 celebrations banner. According to Dr. George Vincent, Gouyave Fish Friday Festival’s chairman, “against all the odds we will be celebrating 100 Fridays of operation and our second anniversary later this month. This local community tourism product called Fish Friday which is hosted every week, has really added a whole new dimension to what the island has to offer to both locals and foreigners, by providing them with a consistent, fun-filled place to eat, meet and greet throughout the years.” The weekly Gouyave Fish Friday Festival has grown from strength to strength over the past 23 months, and has been preparing actively for the celebrating of its 2nd Anniversary. A packed programme of cultural entertainment is planned for selected evenings in the month of June. Speaking with excitement on the plans of the festival committee, Ms. Reece Sam - the Festival’s marketing & public relations consultant said, “June is Gouyave’s special month. It involves Fish Friday’s anniversary and Fisherman’s Birthday. We are having a number of activities which we hope to make annual thereafter to commemorate our anniversary. We have Fishtastic Friday on Friday, June 15; Vintage Gouyave on Friday, June 22; our 2nd Anniversary Gala on Sunday, June 24 – the actual day of our anniversary; and we will be adding our usual Fish Friday vending to the Fisherman’s Birthday experience on Friday, June 29.” Fish Friday, being of a family-oriented nature, has also sought to involve the nation’s children in their celebratory plans by hosting a Kiddies Fish Friday Radio Quiz during the last three weeks of June, also forming part of its June Jamboree 2K7 activities. Among the list of items and activities planned for the patrons during the month of June are an Extempo Competition with four of Grenada’s “big guns”, a skit by Fatman George & the Gang, a Farmer’s Market, Performing Acts of Yesteryear, Vintage Exhibition, a Sea Museum, cultural performances and much, much more. Grenada Essentials Limited, a RARE sponsored craft development project, is also carded to launch their Fish Friday Craft outlet on Friday, June 22, 2007.
