CATEGORY:POLITICS --------------------- INSIDE GRENADA FRIDAY June 15,2007 The New National Party (NNP) has been having a series of village meetings throughout the tri-island state and last night saw the team at the rural village of Byelands, in the constituency of St.Andrew’s North –west. A large group of persons turned out at the “Dead Sand” to listen to members from the NNP team: Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell, Hon. Youland Bain Horsford, Hon. Roland Bhola, Senator Emmalin Pierre, Kennedy Roberts, Kem Jones and Caretaker for the constituency, Mrs. Delma Thomas. The Prime Minister, in addressing the animated and highly energized gathering, told them that the NNP village meetings were all about ‘information’ and not elections. He told the gathering that he is working very hard to get the prices of some grocery items reduced and that sometime in the near future, they will be getting confirmation about this. He also said that several projects are about to start in different parishes around the country which will transform the economy of the nation and bring employment to many Grenadians throughout length and breadth the state. Listeners also heard about the NNPs plans to help develop the nation’s human resource by using some of the schools on the island to provide training for people on evenings. The other speakers for the night re-emphasized the progress that the country is making under the NNP and sought to dispel a lot of the ‘misinformation and propaganda’ that the opposition National Democratic Congress has been putting out. They made numerous references to what they referred to as the ‘double-standards’ and ‘double-talk’ of the NDC. Mr. Kennedy Roberts, the former PRO of the party, spoke about two very important issues: the increase in the price of gasoline and the re-sentencing of the persons who were incarcerated for the execution of Prime Minister Maurice Bishop and other Grenadians on October 13, 1983. He said that the government is working hard to see what can be done to ease the burden brought about by the gas increase, which is due largely to external factors. With respect to the re-sentencing, due to commence on June 18, Roberts told the gathering that the NNP is a law-abiding party and encouraged Grenadians to accept whatever decision is handed down in the case irrespective of their feelings. The main speaker for the night, in the eyes of the villagers, was the caretaker for the area, Mrs. Delma Thomas. She was warmly greeted by the gathering who cheered her through her entire discourse. She informed the villagers about two projects that are about to unfold in the village and told them about her plans for the youth and the aged persons in the area and throughout the constituency. She mentioned that she is a strong believer in Christ and that she will never compromise her Christian values. She said that she is not afraid to stand-up for Christ and praise Him, because he has been good to her.
