STATEMENT BY THE NEW NATIONAL PARTY (NNP) ON THE "GRENA...
CATEGORY:POLITICS -------------------------- INSIDE GRENADA FRIDAY June 22,2007 By Ronald Straker I wish to speak today on the statement made by Hon. Elvin G. Nimrod while speaking at the NNP Rally in Carriacou, he said that Government would do all that is necessary and appropriate to ensure that the prisoners convicted for the killing of Prime Minister Maurice Bishop stay behind bars. The NNP believes strongly that these prisoners must remain behind bars. We believe in justice and the rule of law and this is why we must respond today to recent statements by persons wishing to see the murderers of Maurice Bishop and his Cabinet freed. Led by Hon. Tillman Thomas and Mr. Anslem Clouden, opposition forces have been trying to bring all kinds of excuses and arguments to support the freeing of these prisoners. The latest attempt is a distortion of what was said by Minister Nimrod. Minister Nimrod in his statements did not say that government would go outside of the law to keep these men in prison. Minister Nimrod clearly stated that Government would do all that is "necessary and appropriate". This NNP Government will do all within the law not outside of it. This NNP Government has taken a stand on this issue. We believe that this is one of the worst crimes ever committed in Grenada. We believe that the families and victims of this terrible crime must have justice. We believe that these dangerous criminals must stay behind bars. If they are freed for such a terrible act then all persons who have committed lesser acts will now have a rallying call for their freedom. Fellow Grenadians justice must be defended and wrong must be punished. Reprinted from NNPNews.com
