INFORMATION FROM THE CARNIVAL SECRETARIAT
CATEGORY:CULTURE(CARNIVAL) ------------------------------ INSIDE GRENADA MONDAY June 25,2007 by Shirma Wells, NCC GRENADA: Well folks we do plan to keep you updated as much as is possible as Spice Mas continues to move from one level to the next. We hope that you continue to keep up with the rapid movements as we make our way through the various parish launchings, preliminary competitions and finally to the grand finale of Spice Mas 2007 - Excitement 24/7. "Sauteurs have it" is indeed a true statement. The Spice Mas promotional caravan went west yesterday traveling through the villages stopping first in Gouyave. As the folks in Gouyave start to prepare for Fisherman's Birthday this week, leading into 29th June on Friday, the momentum is already rising. The caravan continued into St. Mark making the rounds in the town and bringing the big tunes to Victorians. Stops were made in Duquesne Bay, Chantimelle (the land of the Shortnee and out standing calypsonians including Praying Mantis, Scholar- the 2006 Calypso Monarch, Biko, Monique Cummings- Junior Calypso Monarch and a host of others). This village was another highlight of the parade. The artiste took advantage of that true cultural spirit and ended up sitting on the road side curb singing and swaying to the rhythm pulsations of their soca music. Getting into Sauteurs - Well just imagine a refreshing sea breeze greeting you and at the same time a Shortnee sleeves bouncing up and down beckoning you as a grand welcome to Sauteurs. The Shortnees were ready, together with other masqueraders including lady Cinty and a host of senior beves to thrill the audience with a touch of nostalgia. The youngsters dressed in costumes gave a good show of carnival spirit. But most of all, the artistes performed to the hilt. All this and more including the appreciative audience made up Spice Mas launch in St. Patrick. It is correct to say that Spice Mas Soca has moved to the next level. Watch out for the Soca competition, a lot will explode on stage. The Soca is Hot! Hot! Boogie B, Soca Sterling, Soca Banton, Zingo and a host of others have done an incredible job in producing what can be considered as some of the best Soca. If this is a simple indication as what is to come then we can safely say we are definitely ahead by miles this year. We await the rest with anticipation. This coming Saturday the commitment is to PAN. The Pan Association will be launching Panorama on the Tanteen Netball Courts and we expect to see all of you there. The exciting rhythm competition will take place and that in itself is a soul captivating competition. 8 steel orchestras have registered to participate, so, it will be pan in the place. Remember its Saturday 2nd June. The following weekend we turn our attention to St. David and St. Andrew. Details will be revealed in our next post. So we move Spice Mas to the next level on the Tanteen Netball courts on Saturday 2nd June. 2007 with the Pan Association. Mas Band sketches - we are hoping that sketches will be available during this coming week. Remember now: SPICE MAS 2007-EXCITEMENT 24/7
