CATEGORY:BREAKING NEWS ------------------------- INSIDE GRENADA WEDNESDAY June 27,2007 by Wallace J.A ST. GEORGE’S: Today, Justice Francis Belle of Barbados, who presided over the re-sentencing of the Grenada 13, delivered his judgment which saw three men from the group walk out from prison to breathe the air of freedom after spending approximately 24 years in jail. The men who were set free are Cecil Prime, Christopher Stroude and Lester Redhead. While these three men were freed, the others have been sentenced to spend up to 40 years in prison, 35 years of which have already been spent. This means that they could be free within three to four years time. A written judgment should be delivered in approximately two weeks time.

The judge made the right decision in releasing the three prisoners.I would have liked to see the others released immediately also.It is about about time Grenadians move on from this sad chapter. What would be the purpose of keeping these people in jail locked up indefinitely? As a matter of fact, they contributed to society more than some people that are free. They have paid their dues.

I am overjoyed with the results. However, I do empathise with the families of the decease.

i think that thes people have served their time and have paid their dues. Why cant we move on and stop dwelling on the past there is nothing that we can do now to change what has already happened. It is high time for us to move on and stop making this a political issue among NNP and NDC as everything else.

Anthony, I think the NNP has been bitterly opposed to the release of these men. On the contraty, ther are members of the main opposition party who have been championing the cause for the release of these men. If anyone is happy, it will be these elements. I heard a certain defense lawyer ranting and raving on television yesterday about forgiving and forgetting - how insensitive!!! I think they need to do the same for all the people convicted of lesser crimes that are still locked up at Richmond Hill. Where is the justice for the dead victims? Where is the justice for the grieving families? It does not seem as if the law recognizes that anymore - it's the culprits/ criminals that have all the rights these days it seems!! It is really a sad day for Grenada and an even sadder one for justice!!
