CATEGORY:SPORTS(CRICKET) ----------------------------- INSIDE GRENADA THURSDAY June 28,2007 by Wallace J.A The West Indies 20/20 cricket team, captained by opening- batsman Chris Gayle, pulled off a sensational victory in front of a mammoth English crowd at Kennington Oval today. The tourists won the game by 15 runs. The West Indies won the toss and decided to bat first, scoring a total of 208 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Devon Smith top-scored with a very entertaining 61runs off 34 balls which included seven 4s and three 6s. Samuels scored 51 runs off 26 balls which included three 4s and four 6s. Chanderpaul made 41 off 26 deliveries with six 4s. In all, the Calypso cricketers struck twenty 4s and eight 6s. The Englishmen gave a spirited chase, losing their first wicket when the score was 40. Captain Paul Collingwood inspired his team with a brilliant knock which yielded 79 runs. At one time, it looked as if the Englishmen were going to steal the game from the West Indies putting up a very determined fight-back. It was only some brilliant bowling by Ravi Rampaul and Dwayne Bravo (who bowled the final two overs of the match) that truly secured the victory for the Windies. England belted fourteen 4s and six 6s in their total of 193/7 before their allotted 20 overs ran out.
