CATEGORY:DIPLOMATIC MEETING --------------------------------- INSIDE GRENADA SATURDAY July 14,2007 by Wallace J.A ST.GEORGE’S: Lech Walesa, President of Poland from 1990 to 1995 and Noble Peace Prize Laureate in 1983, paid a visit to Grenada on Thursday of this week. Mr. Walesa’s visit to this country was to try and convince the Government of Grenada to support Poland’s bid to host an International Expo in 2012. There are two other countries interested in hosting the same event: South Korea and Morocco. The voting will take place on November 27 this year and will be done by the ambassadors of the various countries that are eligible to vote. Mr. Andrew Bierzynski, Poland’s Honorary Consul in Grenada, believes that Grenada can derive tremendous benefits from the European country. Poland has one of the fastest growing economies in Europe and there are many opportunities for tourism related businesses and manufactured goods. Poland has offered scholarships to Grenada and is providing assistance to the Hillsborough Government School. It is expected that Mr. Walesa will make similar visits to Barbados, Antigua, St.Lucia and St. Kitts.
