PARADISE TOPPLES CARIB HURRICANE AND TOPS THE STANDINGS...
CATEGORY:SPORTS (SOCCER) ----------------------------- INSIDE GRENADA MONDAY July 16,2007 by Lester Smith ST.GEORGE’S: Sunday proved to be a good day for football in the "Big Parish" as the match was played under excellent weather conditions. The match was considered to be the highlight of the first round of the Premiership matches as both teams were locked on 13 points from six (6) matches. Well the home team Paradise did not disappoint their hundreds of fans as they clenched a narrow victory 1-0 over defending Champions Carib Hurricane. It was a powerful header from National Striker, Denis Rennie, which set scenes of jubilation across the park. Hurricane fought hard for an equalizer but to no avail. Hurricane remains on 13 points while Paradise push ahead of the standings on 16 points. In other matches played. Hard Rock had to come from a 2-1 deficit against GBSS to earn a 2-2 draw at home in Plains. Hard Rock is struggling with only five (5) points after seven (7) matches. The biggest move in the table over the weekend was long awaited by the Dano Eagles Super Strikers supporters. Eagles won comfortably 2-0 against Fontenoy United at the Fond Playing Field. The victory now put Eagles on five (5) points equal with Hard Rock and ahead of Police and Chantimelle. It must have been a rather disappointing loss at home as the Rangers fans suffered a hard 1-0 defeat at the hands of South Stars. South Stars are now leveled on points with GBSS and only one point behind third place Queens Park Rangers. The present points standing read: -------------------------------------- Paradise (16 pts.), Hurricane (13 ), Queens Park Rangers (11), Grenada Boys (10 ), South Stars (10 ), Fontenoy United ( 6 ), Eagles Super Strikers ( 5), Hard Rock ( 5 ), Police (4) and Chantimelle (3).
