ANTIGUA AG FOR SIR ARCHIBALD NEDD MEMORIAL LECTURE SERI...
Attorney-General of Antigua/Barbuda Justin Simon is scheduled to travel to Grenada this week where he will be the featured speaker at the Sir Archibald Nedd Memorial Lecture. The topic for Simon’s lecture is “Development at what cost? A critical analysis of the law, relating to land use and foreign investment in small island states.” The lecture series has been organised in memory of Sir Archibald Nedd, who served as chief justice of the Grenada Supreme Court from 1979 to 1986. Nedd died in 1992. This year’s lecture takes place tomorrow at the Belle Lecture Hall at the St. George’s University. The lectures were launched by the Grenada Bar Association in 1996 and the series became an annual event in 2001. Past speakers include Prime Minister of St. Vincent & the Grenadines Dr. Ralph Gonsalves in 2003 and former Prime Minister of St. Lucia Dr. Kenny Anthony in 2004. Barbados’ Deputy Prime Minister Mia Mottley is also a past speaker. Sir Archibald Nedd was Grenada’s 1934 Island Scholar. During his legal career, he served in various capacities which included crown counsel, legal draughtsman, registrar of the High Court, magistrate and High Court judge, before becoming chief justice of the Grenada Supreme Court.
