CATEGORY:SPECIAL REPORT -------------------------- INSIDE GRENADA THURSDAY July 26,2007 by Wallace J.A ST. GEORGE’S: Prime Minister of Grenada, Hon. Dr. Keith Mitchell, has scoffed at claims made by a local newspaper/internet columnist that he is still a citizen of the United States. Lloyd Noel, who is also an attorney-at-law, wrote in his July 24, 2007 article that “… the Prime Minister’s U.S. Citizenship revelation is on the boil and may well be boiling over on October 3rd - when the first preliminary hearing takes place in New York, in the Case against himself and Resteiner by the Boston businessman, for recovery of the One Million U.S. dollars allegedly paid by Resteiner to Prime Minister Mitchell.” He further wrote that “…information from Homeland Security in the U.S.A. which deals with Citizenship, among other matters, has confirmed that Keith Mitchell is a U.S. Citizen. He was sworn in at the INS office in the city of Baltimore in the fall of 1984. He has never renounced U.S. Citizenship. No doubt the preliminary hearing on October third will throw more light on the issue. So from all the foregoing, and still more forthcoming with time - what message is being sent to us all?” Lloyd Noel claims that he got his information via email sometime last week from a source based in New York. Mr. Noel feels that the Speaker of the House of Representatives should launch an investigation into the whole matter because if the information is indeed true, it can have serious implications for the country. Noel invoked the Peter David citizenship case, showing that the Member of Parliament for the Town of St. George was brought to court over his citizenship status. Noel stated that Peter David was a Commonwealth citizen (Canadian) as well as a Grenadian, but in the case of America, it is not a Commonwealth country and if the Prime Minister had not denounced his US citizenship, then his status as a Member of Parliament would be unconstitutional. In commenting on the allegations made, Dr. Mitchell said that he has addressed that matter many times before and that his position remains unchanged – he is not a citizen of the US. He said that he does not know what he has to do again to say that he a Grenadian citizen. “. If anybody persists in making that statement they have to come up with proof. I am not crazy, I am a responsible citizen of Grenada, and if I say to you that I am not any other citizen but a Grenadian citizen, who can challenge this? The record is clear.”

Well GGGGirl, the PM has sued Lloyd Noel for the statements that he has made. Let us see if he has proof to back up his statements. Let us allow the law to take its course.

I dont understand why Grenadians like so much bac-can-nal. I am a Grenadian myself living in the US and all i see is fighting for power. Everyone wants to lead and nobody wants to follow. We just went through huricane Ivan and still the people have not change their ways. So much fighting, rumors. Ah mean come on Grenadians, lets take example and be different. Let the man run the country for God's sake.

Well, I agree with the prime Minister: he has said on countless occasions that he is NOT a US Citizen, yet some people, who are good at manufacturing rumors are saying it is not so. I believe that Dr. Mitchell is the best person to know his status. As he said, if people have the proof, let them bring it come; in the meantime, let the gentleman concentrate on the affairs of state and running this country!!!

WHO CAN CHALLENGE YOU SIR ?ANYONE CAN CHALLENGE THIS. THAT IS WHAT MAKES OUR COUNTRY FREE THE RIGHT TO CHALLENGE A WRONG IF IT IS PROVEN THAT IT EXISTS. ONE SHOULD NOT IMAGINE THAT ANY POSITION OF PRIVILEDGE BESTOWED BY THE PEOPLE IN A DEMOCRATIC ELECTION CANNOT BE REVOKED OR CHALLENGED IF THE FACTS ARE SHOWN TO INDICATE THAT MR MITCHELL IS INDEED AN AMERICAN CITIZEN AND FAILED TO DECLARE THAT INFORMATION PRIOR TO RUNNING FOR HIS POSITION OF AUTHORITY.
