CATEGORY:CARNIVAL ---------------------- INSIDE GRENADA SATURDAY July 28,2007 by Wallace J.A GRENADA: Yesterday (Friday July 27, 2007), thirty-one soca monarch semi finalists competed against each other at the Victoria Park inside of Big Parish (St. Andrew)hoping to impress the judges and earn a place in the final round of the competition on Friday August 10. The show was well-supported by hundreds of soca fans who turned out to get a glimpse of their favorite artistes and to listen to some of the hottest soca songs for 2K7. Sixteen artistes (and one stand-by) were selected by the judges to square off against each other and the reigning Soca Monarch, Hollis Mapp alias Mr. Killer, in the Finals of the Soca Monarch competition at the National Stadium on the 10th of next month. Sheldon Douglas Meanwhile, on Sunday July 29, twenty-three calypsonians will face the judges in the Melody-Papitette Semi-finals at Victoria Park, Grenville. They will all be aiming at making the elite group that will try to take the crown from the reigning Calypso Monarch, Findley Jeffery, alias Scholar, at the 2007 Dimanche Gras competition scheduled to take place at the National Stadium on Sunday August 12.
