MELODY-PAPITETTE CALYPSO SEMI-FINAL TAKES PLACE TODAY  
CATEGORY:CALYPSO COMPETITION --------------------------------- INSIDE GRENADA SUNDAY July 29,2007 by Wallace J.A GRENVILLE: Despite the very overcast weather conditions, sporadic rainfall and a wet, soggy outfield, hundreds of Grenadians are still expected to turn out in their numbers at Calypso City inside of Victoria Park, Grenville this evening to witness the semi-final round of the 2007 calypso competition. In the words of one calypso fan, “Rain cyah stop the jam.” Twenty-three calypsonians will face the judges this evening in the Melody-Papitette competition, hoping to make it through to Dimanche_Gras (the final round of the competition) at the National Stadium on Sunday August 12, 2007. The list of Semi-finalists that will be performing this evening are: Elwin McQuilkin (Black Wizard), Shorne Chase (Crate), Raphael Johnson (Croqueta), Lennard Charles (Darkie), Matthew Henry (Elf), Carlos Simon (KD), Jerry Baptiste (Papa Jerry), Nikiah Hagley (Quiet Storm), Val Adams, Randy Isaac, Arthur Stephens (Smokey), Christopher Antoine (Squeezy), Clifford Matthew (Humorous Matt), Martin Felix (Steffie), Martin George (Stumpy), Theresa Robinson (Super Terry), Edison Francis (Teacher Eddie), Anthony Darius (Young Sound), Anthony Ettienne (Waterproof), Wilt Cambridge (Tallpree), Jermaine Simon (Superstar), Sean Niles (Sour Serpent) and Sherene Francis (Sherene). The reigning Calypso King in Grenada is Findlay Jeffery who is known in the calypso world as Scholar.

sorry guys ,,it does not matter who do the judgeing ,some people would still say it was not fair ,as long as their favourite calypsion did not win as bad as they may be to the judges ,remember for most people ,who you hate can never be right ,and who you love can never be wrong ,,tkae the case of tallpree ,and that of wizard ,lol .

I hope the use of foreign judges this year gets rid of the 'ole talk' about judges 'thiefing' for their partners.

Mr. B just a correction, calypsonians and soca artiests dont use aliases, they use what we call a SOBriquet. Just so that you use it next time
