CATEGORY:CALYPSO ------------------- INSIDE GRENADA MONDAY July 30,2007 by Wallace J.A GRENVILLE: Following what can be described as a successful Melody-Papitette Calypso Semi-final at the Victoria Park in Grenville last night, nine local calypsonians and one stand-by have been selected to move on to the finals of the competition. The nine calypsonians who will be vying for the coveted 2K7 title are: Christopher Antoine (Squeezy), Edison Francis ( Teacher Eddie), Elwin McQuilkin (Black Wizard), Jerry Baptiste (Papa Jerry), Lennard Charles (Darkie), Martin George (Stumpy), Martin Felix (Steffie), Sherene Francis, Sean Niles (Sour Serpent) and Nikian Hagley (Quiet Storm) who is the stand-by. To win the 2007 Calypso Monarch title, however, these artistes will have to come up against the reigning Calypso King, Findley Jeffery (Scholar). Dimanche Gras will be taking place at the Grenada National Stadium on Sunday August 12, 2007 and, based on the turnout at the carnival shows and the quality of the materials delivered hitherto, the Finals promises to be a very Grand affair – one that should not be missed!!
