CATEGORY:SPORTS(FOOTBALL) ------------------------------ INSIDE GRENADA TUESDAY July 31,2007 by Lester Smith ST.GEORGE'S: General Secretary of the Grenada Football Association, Victor Daniel, is now designated as a new member of the Organizing Committee for Olympic Football Tournaments Following the re-election of FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter and the installation of the new Executive Committee at the end of May 2007. Consequently, a number of changes have been made to various committees. One of these changes has been the appointment of Mr. Daniel. Mr. Daniel previous experience with FIFA was during the period 2004 – 2007 when he was appointed as a member of the Organising Committee for the FIFA Confederations Cup. His biggest task was his role at the FIFA Confederations Cup held in Germany 2006 where Brazil was crowned Champions. His new appointment is seen as of great importance owing to the fact that he is the ONLY person in the whole Caribbean region that is on the Committee and as such is obliged to seek the interest of the region. The qualifying stages for the next Olympic Tournament is scheduled to start later on in the year and will culminate at the Olympics in Beijeng 2008. Grenada will participate in the qualifying stage group with St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica and St. Lucia hosted by St. Vincent and the Grenadines during the period September 8-12, 2007. Mr. Daniel also serves the region in another capacity: He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU). And has been appointed several times as Match Commissioner and Head of Security for Qualifying Stages of FIFA Competitions. The Grenada Football Association acknowledges his appointment and achievements and look forward to his impacting involvement hoping that it trickles down to our tri-island state.
