CATEGORY:SITUATION UPDATE ----------------------------- INSIDE GRENADA FRIDAY August 3,2007 by Wallace J.A ST.GEORGE’S: The Office of the Attorney General has filed a law suit against lawyer Lloyd Noel for libelous statements against the Prime Minister. Mr. Noel wrote in a publication and later repeated his claims on television, that Prime Minister Mitchell is a US citizen. Mr. Noel's statements also implied that the Prime Minister is occupying the Office of Prime Minister illegally. The law suit was filed yesterday. In the publication in question, Mr. Noel wrote that “…information from Homeland Security in the U.S.A. which deals with Citizenship, among other matters, has confirmed that Keith Mitchell is a U.S. Citizen. He was sworn in at the INS office in the city of Baltimore in the fall of 1984. He has never renounced U.S. Citizenship.” Mr. Noel claimed that the information came from a source that he did not wish to name. In responding to Lloyd Noel’s claim, Dr. Mitchell categorically denied that he was holding the status of a United States citizen. He said that he had addressed that issue on a number of occasions and does not know what else he has to do again to prove that he was a Grenadian citizen. According to the Prime Minister, “If anybody persists in making that statement they have to come up with proof... I am a responsible citizen of Grenada, and if I say to you that I am not any other citizen but a Grenadian citizen, who can challenge this? The record is clear.”
