CATEGORY:CARNIVAL BUILD-UP ------------------------------- INSIDE GRENADA SATURDAY August 11,2007 by Wallace J.A GRENADA – Carnival City (the National Stadium) rocked last night to the tremors generated by thousands of energetic soca maniacs who jumped, gyrated, waved and screamed in response to the dynamic performances of 18 of the country’s best soca artistes for 2007. The venue was packed with soca fans, not only from Grenada but from the USA, Canada, England and some of the neighboring Caribbean territories. Many of them came armed with their rags, flags and whistles and based on the ‘party atmosphere’ that was created at the National Stadium, they all seem to have had quite a lot of fun. All the soca artistes gave magnificent performances and many persons in attendance opined that the standard of this year’s competition was much higher than last year’s. When the dust from the storm ‘kicked up’ by the artistes and their fans settled, Luni Sparks & Electrify, the two sons of Lady Cinthy (Grenada’s first female calypso monarch) emerged as the new soca monarchs. The dynamic duo, Luni Sparks & Electrify (Kelon and Kelson Ogiste) performed at position three last night and gave what can be accurately described as the performance of their lives. They were able to amass a total of 418 points, 14 points ahead of second place winner Elimus Gilbert – Inspector. The final positions in the competition are as follows: 418 - Luni Sparks & Electrify 404 - Inspector 399 - Mr. Killa 397 - Papa Jerry 393 - Sheldon Douglas 384 - Boogie B 369 - Original Sands 360 - Terror P 354 - Randy Isaac 348 - Nnika 346 - Pupa Lindy 337 - Elo 332 - Zingo 328 - Superstar 328 - Spontaneous 323 - Kinky Kim 315 - Rhydum Mix 299 - Dry Bones Grenadian Connection wishes to congratulate Kelon and Kelson Ogiste, as well as all the other winners of the various carnival competitions to date, on their deserving victories.
