LARA'S NIECE KIDNAPPED BUT WAS RESCUED BY POLICE
CATEGORY:REGIONAL -------------------- INSIDE GRENADA TUESDAY August 14,2007 Kidnappers in Trinidad and Tobago restarted their activities on the weekend snatching the 21-year old niece of former West Indies cricket captain, Brian Lara. It's been the first known kidnapping in months. Fortunately for the young woman and her relatives, the police rescued her almost immediately, preventing a ransom demand. Young Adanna Lara, daughter of Brian's eldest brother, was sitting in a car Saturday night with a male companion. The two were attacked by a group of men brandishing guns. Adanna's companion, a soldier, put up a struggle against the men, eventually escaping from the vehicle. The men then discovered who their captive was and having stripped the vehicle of its valuables, bound and secured the woman in an abandoned house presumably in anticipation of demanding a ransom. Police alerted However, Adanna's male companion had alerted the police, and hours later they were able to locate the abandoned and stripped vehicle. The police combed the area and found Adanna bound and gagged in the house. Police suspect that the men who were guarding her took off when they saw the officers coming their way. Police sources say the motive seemed to have originally been to steal the vehicle and rob the occupants of any valuables. The bandits however quickly seized on the opportunity to gain a ransom from the Lara family for the young lady. No comment has come yet from the family and Brian Lara is said to be out of the country. Reprinted from bbccaribbean.com
