CATEGORY:RECOGNITION ------------------------ INSIDE GRENADA SATURDAY August 18,2007 NNP Perspective (The following article represents the views/opinions of the ruling New National Party) ON BEHALF OF the Government and People of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, we wish to thank all the participants and stakeholders for making Carnival 2007 a success. The spirited and patriotic approach to the world-wide exhibition of our cultural heritage is the hallmark of what distinguishes us as a uniquely loving Caribbean people. This Government is very conscious and appreciative of the tireless and creative work that goes into the preparation for Carnival. We have a full understanding of the magnitude of the event and the needs of the viewing public while putting the necessary mechanisms in place to achieve the desired results. This special occasion is therapeutic…a time when we frolic and have good clean fun…a time when people become engrossed with passion and enthusiasm and are able to put aside their personal trials and tribulations and allow the festivities to intrigue and possess their being. Thanks to all the returning nationals and visitors who joined us in celebration of our biggest cultural show – our feature socio-cultural tourism product on our activity schedule that involves every segment of our population from the very young to our senior citizens. Thanks to the vendors and all those who provided good Grenadian-style hospitality to our visitors. We thank all the Band leaders for their wire-bending, costume fitting, band mobilization, event management and marketing. Their invaluable creative and dedicated work year after year is greatly appreciated. We thank the Police and security department for arranging smooth traffic flow and keeping the peace. We thank the Health and Fire Departments for mobilizing their services. We thank the Grenada Cultural Foundation; the Grenada Carnival Committee; the Grenada Mas Band Association; the Grenada Calypso Association; the Grenada Professional Association of Calypsonians and Tents; and the Grenada Calypso and Cultural Association. We also would like to thank Mr. Nazim Benjamin, Webmaster of Grenada's Official Carnival Website www.spicemasgrenada.com who for the past six years, continues to create an online avenue for Grenadians around the world to view Spicemas. Most of all, we thank the Grenadian people for their hospitality and exemplary behavior in helping to maintain the peace and safety that we are renowned for. We look forward to having a bigger and better celebration for Carnival 2008.
