AANENSEN TO QUIT JOB AS CEO OF WICB
CATEGORY:SPORTS(CRICKET) ---------------------------- INSIDE GRENADA TUESDAY August 21,2007 Bruce Aanensen, the Trinidadian banker who was appointed as the CEO of the West Indies Cricket Board (under former President Ken Gordon) has offered to resign from his post. Aanensen’s decision to walk away from the position of CEO seems to be rooted in, among other things, a disagreement with the new administration headed by Julian Hunte - the new President of the WICB - over World Cup payments to players. The WICB board of directors is expected to meet tomorrow (August 22, 2007) to discus and most likely accept Aanensen’s resignation offer. Aanensen has not enjoyed a cordial relationship with many of the players on the West Indies Cricket Team nor has he been able to enjoy a smooth relationship with the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA). After the recent tour of England and Ireland last month, the members of the West Indies senior team had written a letter to WIPA president, Dinanath Ramnarine, expressing their ‘…astonishment, disappointment and displeasure’ at remarks made by Mr. Bruce Aanensen, about players on the West Indies team. There were also a number of unpleasant exchanges between Ramnarine and Aanensen which got to the point where Ramnarine wrote to the CEO suggesting that he resign from his post in the interest of W.I. Cricket. Dinanath Ramnarine is now a member of the board of directors of the new West Indies Cricket Board.
