CATEGORY:COMMUNITY ---------------------- INSIDE GRENADA FRIDAY August 24,2007 by Ms. Sherry Noel MPH Key Stroke has again made history in the life of the young people of La. Digue and surrounding areas. Twenty-two more persons graduated from its computer program this year with certificates, which brings its present tally to fifty-one (51) graduates. All graduates received classes - mainly in Microsoft Word - free of charge. Despite the many challenges and set backs faced, Key Strokes was able to deliver on its summer classes and its graduation ceremony. Included in this years’ graduation exercise were students from the 2006 class. Among the persons attending the 2007 graduation was: Mr. Joseph Mc. Guire, representing Hon. Yolande Bain Horsford – Parliamentary Representative for St. Andrew’s South West; Ms. Patricia Felix - Area Education Officer in the Ministry of Education and Mr. Dennis Bell – also from the Ministry of Education. The feature address was delivered by Mrs. Perdita Smith, a retired teacher and principal. At the graduation ceremony, Ms. Sherry Tynisha Noel, Key Strokes founder and director, encouraged the graduates to take advantage of its advanced computer classes that will soon be offered as well as to seek out opportunities that will enable them to improve themselves. Ms. Noel also expressed Key Strokes commitment to providing computer education and services to communities. Key Strokes recognized and present awards to persons who have made valuable contributions towards the success of its program. Ms. Lois Stanislaus and Ms. Cherry Coutain received Most Outstanding Student Awards for 2006 and 2007 respectively. During the ceremony Key strokes launched its first ever newsletter and its fund raising activities (On sale are Key Strokes designed exercise books and t-shirts). One of Key Strokes goals is the establishment of an office in La. Digue sometime in the near future. This drive will make computer classes and services accessible to all members of the community. By so doing, Key Strokes intends to effectively cater for all the computer needs of the people in the area. No longer will age or place of residence determine who gains access to Key Strokes programs because the organization will be accepting anyone who is interested in taking advantage of the services it offers. Key Strokes will be offering courses in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and many other areas - deemed essential in today’s computer age. It will also be offering internet access (among other services) at an affordable cost to people from the community and the surrounding areas. Another significant contribution to the community will take the form of job opportunities for graduates of the program since Key Strokes will employ its own students to run the office. Ms. Cherry Coutain – Secretary and Mr. Easton Sandy- Public Relation Officer (PRO) were added as new members to Key Strokes executive team. Other executive members include: Ms. Sherry Noel – Founder & Director and Mr. Justin Campbell – Treasurer. Ms Sherry Noel, through Grenadian Connection, wishes to publicly thank all sponsors for their support since the inception of their programme on June 13, 2005. This much needed assistance has taken the organization a long way. Noel singled out Digicel Caring Connection - Key Strokes sponsor for 2006 – for special praise. Key Strokes also wants the public to know that its office in La. Digue will soon be a reality and the organization is in the process of hiring qualified persons in computers to join its teaching staff. Interested persons may contact Ms. Sherry Noel on 403-3746/403-2734 for more information. TO GOD BE THE GLORY, GREAT THINGS HE HAS DONE
