MARKET SUMMARY FROM MNIB
click
CATEGORY:AGRICULTURE ----------------------- INSIDE GRENADA WEDNESDAY August 29,2007 by Fitzroy James This week saw seven price changes of which two were decrease and the rest showed increases. These changes are linked to supply chain issues. The regular rains have not been favorable to the leafy vegetables. Cabbage, lettuce, strings beans among others are under serious stress as they are exposed to the rainy condition and eventually pest and diseases. In fact, cabbages are arriving at MNIB packhouse in most cases were subject to the removal of many outer leaves at point of receipt due to insect damage and instances of sediment between leaves. The many green houses distributed to farmers post hurricane Ivan should be negating the effect of this wet conditions and contribute to good supply of most of these vegetables. Watermelon, passionfruit, christophene, cantaloupe, pap paw, plantains, are showing a good supply and this is expected to continue for the next 4 to six weeks. Farmers with supplies of Sour-sop, ginnep, golden-apples, yellow plums, Julie & Ceylon mangoes, Ginger, sweet potato and dry coconuts, are asked to contact MNIB Pack-House at telephone #’s 440-3111 or 440-9791 to make arrangements for supplying same. Seasoning Peppers are specially requested !!!!!!!
