GRENADA GOVERNMENT SECURES NURSING SCHOLARSHIPS FOR 15 ...
The Grenada government has secured nursing scholarships for 15 young Grenadians in Cuba. The scholarships, which have been made possible through the joint agreement and harmonious working relationship between the governments of Grenada and Cuba, provide the opportunity for the young and promising Grenadians to become qualified medical professionals. The students, 2 young men and 13 young women, are expected to travel to Cuba as early as next Monday to commence their studies. The nursing scholarship program will run for a period of 54 months (4 1/2 years), and according to Health Minister Sen. the Hon. Ann David Antoine and Chief Nursing Officer, (CNO) Ms. Nester Edwards, is an opportunity that the recipients should grasp and make the best of. “Cuba is known to produce some of the best medical practitioners in the world”, they added, and to have young Grenadians being given such opportunity at such early stage in their life can only be of benefit to themselves as individuals and the overall nursing profession in Grenada. Minister Antoine said the awarding of the scholarships is proof that the Government of Grenada through the Ministry of Health is not only serious about the development of health care institutions in Grenada, but also the human resource needed to drive the nation’s health care system. Prime Minister Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell, Cuban Ambassador to Grenada Her Excellency Mrs. Maria Delgado, together with Health Minister Antoine and (CNO) Edwards will hold a sending off ceremony for the scholarship awardees on Friday morning at the Ministry of Education’s conference room.
