NNP CLAIMS GAIN ON LOST SUPPORT
The ruling New National Party (NNP) of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell is claiming that it has recovered a significant amount of support lost at the last general election, when it narrowly scraped through to win a parliamentary majority. The NNP, which won elections on three occasions and formed the government for the last 12 years, said a number of internal surveys it had conducted over the past three years indicated that the party was recovering well after seeing its electoral majority significantly reduced. The NNP won eight of the 15 seats in the House of Represen-tatives in the 2003 General Election, following its historic clean-sweep of the polls in 1999. Reprinted from jamaica-gleaner
