Grenada’s footballers will come up against the defending champions in the Caribbean Cup Soccer Championship, Jamaica, in New York later on today (Sunday September 2, 2007). The match will be played at the Jefferson High School Field commencing at 5:00pm.
Grenada reached the finals by defeating St.Vincent and the Grenadines on penalty kicks in a semi-final encounter played in Brooklyn last week Sunday. The game had gone into penalty kicks after both teams were tied nil-nil at the end of regulation time. Grenada, however, was then able to convert more penalty shots into goals than their Vincentian counterparts, thereby booking their place in the finals of the tournament.
The other team in the final, Jamaica, was able to gain the upper-hand over St. Lucia in their semi-final encounter, defeating them two-nil.
Today’s Caribbean Cup Finals promises to be very keenly contested. The Spice Boys will definitely be going all out to win the prestigious challenge while the Reggae Boys will be fighting hard to defend their title and re-claim the championship.
Grenadians in the New York area are encouraged to attend the football match today and throw their full support behind the national team.
